Take online survey through April 1; more at https://vaprojectpipeline.org/studies/salem/sa-23-06.asp
SALEM — The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking feedback on a transportation study focusing on improving roadway safety, reliability, and multimodal accessibility/connectivity along Peters Creek Road (Route 117) and Williamson Road (Route 11) between Wood Haven Road (Route 628) and Plantation Road (Route 115) in Roanoke County. The study is evaluating traffic operations, safety conditions, and multimodal improvements and considering a range of improvements that may be developed into applications for transportation funding.
VDOT invites residents and travelers to review improvements under consideration to address identified transportation needs and to take an online survey that will be available from 5 p.m. on March 18 through 11:59 p.m. on April 1. Community input received through this survey will help the study team and local leaders to refine the recommendations for potential improvements and determine whether to pursue future funding opportunities. Roanoke County is also hosting a community meeting tonight, March 18 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Hollins Library at 6624 Peters Creek Road, Roanoke, VA 24019 to receive comments.
The survey, which has a translation tool for other languages, is available at https://publicinput.com/sa-23-06alternatives and will be open to receive comments when Roanoke County’s meeting begins at 5 p.m. Comments can also be sent to Carol.Moneymaker@VDOT.Virginia.gov or to Carol Moneymaker, Virginia Department of Transportation, 731 Harrison Avenue, Salem, VA 24153.
This study is being conducted as part of the Project Pipeline program, which was created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT).
The Commonwealth is partnering with Roanoke County and the Roanoke Valley Transportation Planning Organization to develop targeted improvements for the Peters Creek Road and Williamson Road Project Pipeline Study that minimize community impacts and address priority needs in a cost-effective way. This study is expected to be complete in summer 2024; it does not set construction dates for any improvements. The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding through programs including SMART SCALE, revenue sharing, interstate funding, and others.
