August 22 hearings for adjacent Route 460 projects: two in Roanoke County and one in Roanoke
SALEM - The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and the City of Roanoke will hold public hearings at the same time and location for three adjacent projects intended to improve traffic flow and safety on Route 460 (Challenger Avenue/Orange Avenue) in Roanoke County and Roanoke.
The three Route 460 projects are between Hickory Woods Drive in Roanoke and Route 1400 (Avery Row) in Roanoke County and entail reconfiguring multiple intersections using innovative intersection concepts such as restricted crossing U-turns (RCUT) or thru-cuts. The intersection of Route 460 and Route 220 Alternate would be reconfigured as a displaced left turn.
The hearings will be held on Thursday, August 22, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bonsack Elementary School located at 5437 Crumpacker Drive in Roanoke. The hearings will be held in an “open-house” format, and representatives from VDOT and the City of Roanoke will be present to answer questions.
VDOT’s hearing will include information on two projects in Roanoke County. One project starts at Blue Hills Village Drive and extends about 1.1 miles east and the other starts 0.27 mile east of Huntridge Road and extends about 0.5 mile east.
