SALEM – Brian Casella, P.E, of Moneta has accepted the position of resident engineer for the Virginia Department of Transportation’s (VDOT) Bedford Residency Office.

Casella will serve as VDOT’s top transportation official for Bedford and Franklin counties by overseeing road maintenance and operations, land development programs, budgets and business operations.  He also will be the primary human resources manager for approximately 115 employees at VDOT.

“I am excited to serve the citizens of Bedford and Franklin counties as the resident engineer,” said Casella. “The Bedford Residency has a great team of employees, and I consider it an honor to lead them.”

Casella began his career with VDOT in 2011 and has held several positions including land use program manager for the Salem District and the area land use engineer for the Beford Residency. Since 2018, Casella has served as an assistant resident engineer in the Bedford Residency Office.

Before working at VDOT, Casella was a consulting engineer for 13 years and served as a vice president at Balzer and Associates.  He is a licensed professional engineer and land surveyor in Virginia and holds a bachelor’s in civil engineering from Virginia Tech.

“Brian is an accomplished professional who communicates effectively at all levels,” said Salem District Engineer Ken King. “I know he will do a great job leading the Bedford Residency and serving the community in his new role.”
