Daytime Closures March 10-11 on Route 39 Alternate in Rockbridge County

STAUNTON – Part of Route 39 Alternate (Main Street) in the Rockbridge County town of Goshen is scheduled to be closed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, March 10-11. These daytime closures are for railroad crossing maintenance adjacent to the C&O Depot, between Route 39/42 (Virginia Avenue) and the original alignment of Route 39 (Maury River Road). All work is weather permitting.

Passenger vehicles using Route 39 Alternate can detour around the work zone on the original Route 39, which has a vertical-clearance limit of 11 feet 10 inches.

Tractor trailers and other vehicles above the height restriction will detour as follows:

  • Truck drivers traveling west (from Lexington area) on Route 39 will take Route 780 (Brattons Run) south, Route 850 (West Midland Trail) east, Route 780 (Scenic Trail) south, Interstate 64 west to exit 29, and then Route 42 (Forty Two Road) north to the end of the detour.
  • Truck drivers traveling east (from Bath County) on Route 39 will need to take Route 42 (Forty Two Road) south, Interstate 64 east to exit 43, Route 780 (Scenic Trail) north, Route 850 (W Midland Trail) west, and then Route 780 (Brattons Run) north to the end of the detour.
