Staunton District Traffic Alert for February 10 - 14, 2025

STAUNTON – The following is a list of highway work that may affect traffic in the Staunton transportation district during the coming weeks. The Staunton District consists of 11 counties from the Alleghany Highlands to the northern Shenandoah Valley: Alleghany, Bath, Rockbridge, Highland, Augusta, Rockingham, Page, Shenandoah, Frederick, Clarke and Warren.

Scheduled work is subject to change due to inclement weather and material supplies. Motorists are advised to watch for slow-moving tractors during mowing operations. When traveling through a work zone, be alert to periodic changes in traffic patterns and lane closures.

ALLEGHANY COUNTY
 
INTERSTATE 64
*NEW* Mile marker 41 to 0, westbound – Right shoulder closure for tree trimming operations, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Wednesday through Friday.
Mile marker 15 to 14, westbound – Overnight right lane closure for cleanup operations, 9 p.m. to 4 a.m. Thursday night.

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 42 (Forty Two Road) – Alternating lane closures near Route 636 (Morgan Drive) intersection for maintenance to bridge over railway, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. through Friday.
Business Route 60 (West Ridgeway Street, Clifton Forge) – Westbound right lane closure between Fifth Street and town limits for utility work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. through Friday.
Route 159 (Dunlap Creek Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 311 (Kanawha Trail) and Route 665 (Moss Run Road) for rock and soil testing, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.
Various roads – Flagger traffic control for tree and debris removal, drainage work, pothole patching, brush cutting, ditching and shoulder repairs, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS

AUGUSTA COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 64
*UPDATE* Mile marker 95 to 98, eastbound and westbound – Overnight alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through February 27. Daytime shoulder closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through February 28. Traffic restrictions are for painting of bridges over Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue). 
*NEW* Mile marker 97 to 99, eastbound and westbound – Right shoulder closures including along Exit 99 off-ramps for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 220 to 222, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures 24/7 for bridge replacement and roadway construction as part of I-81 southbound auxiliary lane project. Expected completion in summer 2025. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour.
*UPDATE* Mile marker 221 to 227, northbound and southbound – Overnight left lane closures southbound from mile marker 223 to 222 for bridge work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through March 27. Northbound and southbound shoulder closures 24/7 through spring 2026. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project. Work zone speed limit 60 miles an hour. 
*UPDATE* Mile marker 226 to 230, northbound and southbound – Overnight alternating lane closures, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through March 30. Daytime shoulder closures, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through March 31. Traffic restrictions are for bridge painting. 

PRIMARY ROADS
*UPDATE* Route 11 (Lee-Jackson Highway) – Overnight single-lane closures for inspection of Route 262 overpass bridges, 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday night (February 16).
*UPDATE* Route 250 (Jefferson Highway) – Eastbound and westbound overnight alternating lane closures near I-81 interchange for bridge work, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. nights through March 27. Traffic restrictions are for I-81 widening project.
*UPDATE* Route 250 (Three Notched Mountain Highway) – Eastbound and westbound shoulder closures near I-64 interchange for painting of interstate overpass bridges, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. through February 28. 

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 624 (South Delphine Avenue, Waynesboro) – Shoulder closures between South Oak Lane and Chinquapin Drive for work related to construction of Waynesboro Southern Corridor, through May 2025. 
Route 635 (Barterbrook Road) – Closed between I-81 frontage roads (FR-217 and FR-218) for bridge replacement as part of I-81 southbound auxiliary lane project. Follow posted detour. Expected completion summer 2025. 
Route 664 (Lyndhurst Road, Waynesboro) – Shoulder closures between Miami Avenue and Purdue Street for work related to construction of Waynesboro Southern Corridor through June 2025. 
Route 724 (Heizers Tanyard Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 720 (Jerusalem Chapel Road) and Route 723 (Whiskey Creek Road) for utility work, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through February 20. 
*NEW* Route 5119 (Oak Lane, Waynesboro) – Local traffic only between Lyndhurst Road and Windsor Road through April 30 for road work related to Waynesboro Southern Corridor project. Flagger traffic control for local drivers, 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays. Through traffic will be detoured.
Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for drainage work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 to 3 p.m. weekdays.

ROCKINGHAM COUNTY 
 
INTERSTATE 81
Exit 240, northbound and southbound – Shoulder closures along ramps to and from Route 257 for construction of additional turn lanes, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through July 1. 
Mile marker 242 to 248, northbound and southbound – Overnight ramp closures and alternating lane closures as needed, 8 p.m. to 7 a.m. Expect delays. 24/7 shoulder closures. Traffic restrictions are related to Route 33 bridge and interchange projectwith completion expected in September 2026.
Mile marker 258 to 255, southbound – Shoulder closures including along Exit 257 off-ramp for shoulder repairs, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 

PRIMARY ROADS
Route 33 (Rawley Pike) – Flagger traffic control between Laurel Woods Lane and Switzer Lake Road/Skidmore Fork for paving, line-painting and guardrail work related to road widening project, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. through May 2025.
*UPDATE* Route 33 (East Market Street, Harrisonburg) – Single-lane traffic between Vine Street/Hawkins Street and Evelyn Byrd Avenue during daytime or overnight hours due to bridge construction. Occasional full closures as needed. Shoulder closures 24/7. Traffic restrictions are for Route 33 bridge replacements and interchange improvement with expected completion in September 2026. 
Various roads – Mobile traffic control for mowing operations. Flagger traffic control for pipe replacement, ditch work, tree removal, shoulder repairs, pavement patching and brush cutting, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. weekdays.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 620 (Mountain Valley Road) – Flagger traffic control at various locations between Route 806 (Martz Road) and Route 722 (Armentrout Path) for tree trimming operations, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through Monday (February 10). 
Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) – Eastbound and westbound single lane closures between I-81 interchange and Route 867 (North River Road) for road widening project, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through July 1.
Route 800 (McCauley Drive, Timberville) –Flagger traffic control between Route 42 (South Main Street/Timber Way) and Fourth Avenue for sidewalk construction, 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. through May 1.
Route 910 (Fort Lynne Road) – Flagger traffic control near intersection with Route 768 (Antioch Road) for tree trimming operations, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. through Monday (February 10).

*NEW* Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) – Shoulder closures between Route 730 (Moreland Gap Road) and Route 730 (Caverns Road) for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
*UPDATE* Route 11 (Old Valley Pike/Main Street, Mt. Jackson) – Northbound and southbound shoulder closures between Center Street (Edinburg) and Route 1311 (Montvue Avenue, Mount Jackson) for sidewalk improvements, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 707 (Red Banks Road) – Flagger traffic control between Route 11 (Old Valley Pike) and Route 698 (Palmyra Church Road) for rock and soil testing, 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. through Friday.

FREDERICK COUNTY 

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 302 to 300, southbound – Shoulder closures for sign installations, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 24. 
Mile marker 311 to 321, northbound – No lane closures, but survey crews working in right of way, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. through February 28. 

PRIMARY ROADS
*NEW* Route 11 (Martinsburg Pike) – Overnight alternating lane closures between Route 664 (Stephenson Road) and Route 837 (Ebert Road) for rock and soil testing, 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Thursday nights.
*UPDATE* Route 11 (Valley Pike) – Northbound right shoulder closures between Route 873 (Renaissance Drive) and Route 652 (Shawnee Drive) for sign work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*NEW* Route 17/50 (Millwood Pike) – Northbound right shoulder closures between Route 796 (Purdue Drive) and Route 781 (Custer Avenue/Prince Frederick Drive) for sign work, 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

*NEW* Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Westbound right shoulder closures between Route 643 (Retreat Road) and Route 604 (Good Shepherd Road) for tree removal operations, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
*NEW* Route 7 (Harry Byrd Highway) – Eastbound and westbound right shoulder closures between Route 612 (Shepherds Mill Road) and Route 608 (Wickliffe Road) for sign work, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. 
*NEW* Route 340 (Lord Fairfax Highway) – Flagger traffic control between Route 1070 (Vista Lane) and Route 644 (Gun Barrel Road) for tree removal operations, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 761 (Old Charles Town Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 666 (Gun Club Road) and Route 661 (Wadesville Road) beginning February 3 for replacement of Opequon Creek bridge at Frederick County line. Expected completion in November. Follow posted detour.

INTERSTATE 81
Mile marker 300 to 299, southbound – Shoulder closures for sign installations, 6 a.m. to 3 p.m. through March 24. 

PRIMARY ROADS
No lane closures reported.

SECONDARY ROADS
Route 658 (Rockland Road) – Closed to through traffic between Route 340/522 (Winchester Road) and Route 705 (Fishnet Boulevard) for construction of bridge over Norfolk Southern Railway. Follow posted detour. Estimated completion December 2025.
